Base.Camp La Jolla Activities

Base.Camp La Jolla

TUESDAY AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES

One of the things we work hard to do at every Base.Camp is to create unforgettable, interactive experiences to complement all of those strategic conversations. During our famous Tuesday afternoon Base.Camp adventures and excursions, we set aside those discussions to do the equally essential work of coming together as a true community of humans who share common goals.

If you ask anyone who’s attended a Base.Camp before, they’ll be the first to tell you that these are where some of the most valuable memories are made, new relationships are forged, and existing bonds are strengthened, making up the foundation of the work we must accomplish as a whole. We’ll share soon what’s on deck for La Jolla.

Championship Golf in the Canyons at Maderas Golf Club

NOON to 5:00 PM

A round at Maderas Golf Club takes you deep into the rugged inland canyons of northern San Diego, where the views are big, the elevation changes are dramatic, and the course has no interest in giving you an easy afternoon.

Designed by Johnny Miller and Robert Muir Graves, this championship course winds through centuries-old oak trees, meandering creeks, and striking rock outcroppings. Sweeping fairways drop and climb across the natural landscape, while pristine greens wait in places that will have you checking the yardage twice.

Maderas pairs all of that drama with the polished service and quiet exclusivity of a private country club. You’ll have GPS-equipped carts, fresh towels, and access to an expansive practice facility before taking on the course. And once the round is over, the elegant Tuscan-style clubhouse is waiting for a post-round drink and a chance to revisit every brilliant shot, questionable decision, and ball the canyon may have claimed.

What to bring: Collared shirt and traditional golf shorts or pants. Clubs, if you’ve got ‘em.

Athena Catamaran Celebration in San Diego Harbor

NOON to 5 PM

We’re stepping aboard the Athena for a private floating celebration through San Diego Harbor, with 53 feet of luxury yacht and some of the best views in the city working heavily in our favor.

You’ll glide across the shimmering bay while you settle into Athena’s spacious open bow, stretch out on the cozy bean bags, and order a craft cocktail from the custom-built bar. A curated Bluetooth playlist will fill the deck while you lounge in the sun, sip your drink, and watch the harbor unfold around you.

From the water, San Diego puts on a very good show. We’ll drift past the towering USS Midway, sail beneath the sweeping curve of the Coronado Bridge, and take in unobstructed panoramic views of the downtown skyline along the way.

You can bask in the warm Southern California sun on the open deck, keep the music going, and let the attentive captain and crew handle the rest. Everything about the Athena is designed to make the voyage feel smooth, polished, and completely effortless. It’s an elevated, sea-breeze-filled escape to the vibrant maritime energy of the Pacific coast.

What to bring: Light comfortable clothing, flat shoes, a hat and sunscreen.

Heart of the Savanna – San Diego Zoo’s Safari Park Deluxe Safari

12:45 PM to 5:15 PM

Go where the wild things are! The Deluxe Wildlife Safari at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park drops you into the heart of the African and Asian plains without ever leaving Southern California. Your immersive 90-minute adventure begins aboard a covered, open-air safari truck that takes you off the paved park roads and deep into expansive, multi-species savanna habitats.

You’ll move at an easy, animal-dictated pace, giving you the freedom to stand, move around the back of the vehicle, and capture incredible zoom-free photos of towering giraffes, grazing rhinos, and graceful antelope just a few feet away. It’s an unforgettable, intimate experience with nature you won’t soon forget.

What to bring: Comfortable shoes, a hat, and sunscreen.

Kayak on the Wild Side at La Jolla Cove

1:30 PM to 5:00 PM

Here’s your chance to kayak through the La Jolla Ecological Reserve, one of Southern California’s most vibrant marine ecosystems. You’ll paddle past the sun-drenched coastal bluffs, with a soundtrack courtesy of La Jolla’s famously vocal sea lions. Below you, the crystal-clear Pacific opens up into a busy underwater world filled with bright orange Garibaldi, graceful bat rays, a few harmless leopard sharks, and towering kelp forests swaying beneath the surface.

Then we’ll head toward La Jolla’s dramatic, 75-million-year-old sandstone cliffs and the famous Seven Sea Caves. You’ll navigate the gentle ocean swells, feel the cool ocean mist, and hear the tide echo through the cavernous grottos as you make your way inside.

The Pacific may have a few surprises waiting, too. You could find yourself gliding alongside a pod of playful dolphins, or pausing on the water to take in the sweeping views of La Jolla’s rugged coastline.

What to bring: A swimsuit as your base layer, quick-dry clothing, and sports sandals or water shoes. Also a hat, sunglasses, and plenty of sunscreen. Lockers are provided at the office.
