July 25: Let them eat chocolate cake

T-minus 7 days (or so) until beans are spilled...

First beans, now cake. I know what you're asking yourselves, "Rob, are you working on the newsletter again while hungry?" No, actually it stems from an article in last week's AdExchanger where quite the killer line-up is quoted (Meron! Messer! Rowley! Dick! Bannister! Beeler!). 

Quick tangent: this article is an example of people SPEAKING UP which is what we need to do if we're going to shape our future instead of just accepting it. Anyway...

In the article, Scott invoked the 'chocolate cake analogy' and makes the point that it's going to be hard for buyers to buy data products publishers are selling if the buyers don't know how those data products are made. It's true. Even though most people have ZERO idea what makes up a 3rd-party data segment and everyone uses them, publishers are going to have to go the extra mile to prove they are on the up and up. It's a pain in the ass, but ultimately we should get behind doing this the right way.

Which brings me to my podcast this week. While working on a training class on Seller Defined Audiences, I saw that the IAB Tech Lab has established a partnership with a company I had not heard of: Neutronian. Neutronian offers data quality and compliance certification. It occurred to me that if audits on publisher first-party data might be a key step in making SDA a reality, we should learn more. Therefore...
