July 11: Summer time and the adopsin' ain't easy

Quick aside: dive into the complicated history of Porgy and Bess and the song "Summertime". I knew it as a jazz staple and a lyric from a Sublime song, but there's a lot more to it than that. It is an interesting dive into our country's complicated history with race. 
 

Few things are harder than trying to reconcile 3rd-party discrepancy reports while it's sunny outside. It's especially difficult while working from home (quick aside – we can't WAIT to share the salary survey results with you and our findings about working from home).

The only way out of this conundrum quite honestly is to make time to get outside and ponder your next moves. We all worry about being made redundant, but the only way to overcome that possibility is to become more valuable for your strategic capabilities and less for your ability to push buttons really quickly. Take that leap: Take what is on your plate and see what can be automated, outsourced, or delegated. Start working on what you'd be able to bring to the table if you were freed from those tasks. Present to your manager a plan to make you a key part of their future. Don't wait for your company to find that you're a diamond in the rough. Shine, baby, shine!
